The Wright (or wrong) Brothers

I have a twelve (almost thirteen is what she’d say) year old daughter. Her name is Devaney and she is an incredibly beautiful…I mean strikingly beautiful…super intelligent, witty (sometimes argumentative) DIVA. Her favorite things lately, and a phenomenon that began WAY back when I was in high school, are blond jokes. Well, I should say that hers are more like comments like – “She’s so blonde” or “That was such a blonde thing to do” and so on and so forth. Well Baby Girl, this one’s for you…

We were watching “Night At The Museum 2” yesterday. Don’t know if you’ve seen it but it contains all kinds of historical figures like Amelia Earhart, Teddy Roosevelt, Sacajawea, etc. During a scene involving aircraft, the camera panned across two guys in front of their flying invention (you know, those brothers who pioneered flight). My younger daughter (DeeDee) excitedly exclaimed “It’s the Wright Brothers!” She was very pleased with her display of such knowledge and just as I was acknowledging her smarts, my super smart diva daughter Devaney blurts out:

“What?! Those are the Wright Brothers?…I thought they were black?!

“Oh, wait…

that’s the Wayans Brothers.”

My Personal Trainer

It’s true…I’m a little out of shape, um, well, ok, I’m in the worst shape of my life. In my defense, I DID just have our fifth child (OK fine! So it’s been eight and a half months). Still, and even with all that said, I was thinking that I still looked sort of good. That is…until my ten year old offered (or rather insisted) her services as my personal trainer.

DeeDee: “Mommy, I am going to get you into shape, K?!”

Me: “Sure, like a personal trainer?”

DeeDee: “Yes! and you are going to run every weekend and I’ll run with you and we can run around the block a few times.”

Me: “OK, but we have a lot to do this weekend, so not this weekend.”

DeeDee: “Well, Tuesday, after we get the babies laid down, we’ll go.”

Me: “We can’t leave the babies alone in the house and go around the block, DeeDee!”

DeeDee: “Well then, we’ll just run around the driveway lots of times!”

Me: “Ok DeeDee.”

Prayers For A Family

I have no beautiful pictures to share today…I hardly even have any words. I am thinking, I am praying, I am mourning for a life I really didn’t even know. I met him just once…was introduced as “Coach Sparrow’s wife”…and certainly didn’t realize then that the first time I saw him would also be the last.

My husband just left here, wearing his black suit, and a very distinct sadness upon his face. He bought that suit to wear as he celebrated the marriage of his little sister…now he dons it once again for a much grimmer occasion. As a Christian, I know that one’s homegoing is really supposed to be a glorious event, however, as a human being I am so sad… particularly for this young man’s mother.

He and his brother played for my husband’s football team, the Portland Raiders. Tony (my husband), who’s own brothers are much younger than him, really seemed to respect and appreciate the closeness he witnessed between these two young brothers. He recently talked to Jamell and was so excited in support for this young man, who just lost eighty-five pounds in anticipation of the upcoming season. Although Tony’s sadness is obviously for an entire family…ALL of whom have sustained a great loss, he’s mainly concerned about the surviving half of this whole, this duo, this team of two brothers he had the honor of witnessing last season.

RIP Jamell…I hope the peace of our Father has enveloped you, making your homecoming  more glorious than any mere human could imagine. So much more than that, however, I lift your family up to our Heavenly Father, I pray that pain is replaced with peace, I pray that sweet memories are held cherished forever, I pray that smiles soon replace tears as thoughts of you come to mind, I pray that a  miraculous, supernatural healing take place in the hearts of all who love you…In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The New Girl

s42239ca119483_22_0This is Destiny, my angel. She is new at school…a very hard thing for a fifth grader, especially since she attended her old school since kindergarten. Destiny, or Dee Dee as we call her at home, is an extremely accepting, compassionate, sensitive, funny, and athletic girl (so if any of you in our new area know the right basketball leagues to get in to, please let me know).

We, of course, love our daughter with all our hearts and, in attempt to make this transition easier for her, are throwing the “new girl at school” a welcoming party.

Friday, March 5th @ 5-9pm. We will be feeding the girls. Her cousin and a few friends will be sleeping over as well, and that is optional for everyone. I am so not offended if you don’t want your daughter to stay all night, we are also very protective parents and understand that.

RSVP AND GET ADDRESS/DIRECTIONS @ 910-9135.

My name is Donna Sparrow (obviously you know that if you’re reading my blog) and I really appreciate your support for my daughter.

My Three Sons

Look at them…just look at these three, amazing sons of mine.

My oldest, Antonio, becoming such a young man. These major changes are really starting to take place in his physical appearance…you know, when a boy starts to look like a man, kind of “around the edges” of his face, neck…eyes?  He is such a handsome reflection of the baby boy he just was (seems like yesterday).

My youngest, Adarius, such a ham roll, his ear lobes are even fat! He is just about the jolliest, truly happy, spirit I have ever met. I am SO glad he has finally joined the family and I am SO complete now that he is here. Waking up every morning with him next to me is like opening a brand new gift everyday.

Then…there is my middle son. Hmmm, what can I say about this little guy? Those of you who know him really need no explanation, you already know that there are really no words to accurately describe my “one-of-a-kind” D’Angelo. I will preface this by saying that I love my little man with all my heart and soul, couldn’t survive my life without him, and I know he is most certainly a gift from Almighty God Himself. With that, I also know that God must have a unique sense of humor and He is most definitely sitting up on His throne getting a big kick out of the way D’Lo runs the program here in the Sparrow household. He is the most active, scrappy, bossy, headstrong, opinionated, curious, “hands on” and, of course, perfect two year old.

If it’s true that pictures say a thousand words, well then, these photos say all that’s needed about my three sons…
