Candy Highway

Life has a way of keeping us preoccupied with it’s menial and redundant tasks, and this day was certainly no different. My mind was reeling, weighted down with thoughts of house and home, husband and kids, bills and payments, due and overdue, lists of needs and appointments, sports camps and practice times…and “what’s for dinner tonight?”. I generally barely remember the miles before my destination, as my thoughts are misplaced on multi-tasking rather than on street names and traffic lights. I’m not proud of that.
As I pulled into Walmart on this particular day (completely on auto-pilot), there was this very large obstacle sort of blocking my view of available parking spots. What seemed like minutes were really merely seconds, my eyes and mind absorbing what I was looking at. It took a few seconds more for my heart to catch up and then, suddenly…clarity. The world got so quiet and the sun seemed to be hugging only me as I got out of my car and approached what had, just a moment ago, been nothing more than an obstacle in my path.
A young man stepped out and greeted me with a smile. I asked if I could take some pictures, and my request was met with joyful approval. He talked with me for a bit about the mission they were on, driving cross-country, ministering to any group or lone soul they may encounter on the highways, interstates, small country or large city roads, trying to reach out to those who may not have the opportunity to hear The Message had this large, colorful, spray-painted, signature covered (mine is above the rear wheel well/passenger side), old school bus not come rumbling down the street past them.
“There’s another soul we’re trying to save.” He explained as he nodded toward the cute, black dog that was stepping out of the bus. Turns out they picked up the pooch, abandoned along some state route. One of a few canines living amongst this selfless, Spirit-guided, group travelling along the Candy Highway, affecting lives for the better – like they did for me, in the midst of my own chaos, one day in my neighborhood Walmart parking lot.

I saw these people today at MY OWN Walmart parking lot. They seem like very devoted, down to Earth Folks… and I signed my name right around the same area as you! My children signed near the door. 🙂 I provided them with some cases of bottled water, some cookies, some dog food, and some canned Chef Boyardee.

Did you see where I signed? I put my blog address there too. Wasn’t that bus an amazing thing to see in person? I’m wondering if you saw my post before you saw the bus, or did you find my post after you saw the bus? Either way, thanks for stopping by to comment and share 🙂
