Run Baby Run

Well, I thought he did pretty well. Considering he won’t even be two until the end of September, and considering there were, like, eighty people staring at him, and considering his mommy and daddy had him all dressed up in this stiff monkey suit…I believe he did really well.

He waited, as patiently as a baby can, for everyone else to walk down the aisle in their given order. He and Grace, his cousin and flower girl, were to make their way down together right before the beautiful bride. Finally their turn, my husband (who, by the way, looked incredibly sexy in his new, black suit) knelt down beside our son and directed him to take the pillow to Uncle Devon. Uncle Devon, Shade’s then fiance/now husband was waiting for his bride at the front of the sanctuary, smiling at D’Angelo as if to say “C’mon Bubba, bring that pillow to me” and, sure enough, D’Lo knew just where to go.

So, D’Lo started off at a good pace but as it dawned on him that every, single eyeball in the room was pointed at him, his pace became a toddler sprint. His beautiful ringlets began bouncing up and down with every step, and the ring bearer’s pillow now more resembled a relay baton as it moved back and forth in time with his stride. And forget about poor Gracie…he left her in the dust ya’ll.

Upon his approach, and just as we were all about to breath a sigh of relief because he finally reached Uncle Devon, he stopped a few feet short of the mark. Just long enough to raise that little arm up, pillow and all, and throw what would have been a perfect spiral if it had been a football in his hand. Thank God Uncle Devon caught that pass. Then, without hesitation, my precious baby boy turned on his heels and sprinted completely back down the aisle toward his daddy. I believe he made it in record time, and was probably concentrating too much on his goal to even notice the wave of laughter as it washed over the entire room.

Well, I think it was worth it just to see my baby in that stiff monkey suit…
