Counting Today’s Blessings

I am so grateful. Not rich – barely paying the bills, really. Not famous – just a few hundred readers, really. Not perfect – some wrinkles, stretch marks, cellulite, and personality flaws from that, really. Still, I am so grateful.
Can you imagine the amount of tears being shed by the friends and families of the Military’s fallen today? While we may all have our own opinions about what should or shouldn’t be going on over there, I’m talking about the mother who will never hold her son in her arms again. Can you imagine the dread faced by the parents who don’t know what they will feed their children today, or even if they can find water to give them? That kind of anguish is so far from my concerns over giving my kids Ramen noodles for lunch. Can you imagine the desperation felt by families who are being forced from their own homes today? Or the heartache felt by the mothers and fathers of terminally ill children today? Or the sudden and gripping loneliness of the lovers burying their soulmates today?
I’ll say it one more time…I am so grateful today. I have been making it a point in my daily life to let God know just how thankful I am for His many blessings. The roof over our heads – thank You. The health of my family…thank You. The cars that get us from A to B…thank You. The job, however difficult, that earns the money to pay the bills…thank You. The food, however budgeted it may be, that feeds my children…thank You. The water that we have to drink, bathe, wash our clothes and dishes in…thank You. Good schools for my children to learn in…thank You. Heat when it is cold and cool air when it is hot…thank You. The physical and mental capacities so graciously given to us, and the opportunities to use them…thank You. The blessing of a partner to love, who loves me back, to share all of these other blessings with…thank You, thank You, thank You.
I not a “glass half full” type of girl today…Instead, I am a “glass completely, totally, couldn’t fit another drop in there, all the way, filled up to the top” type of girl today.
