Summer Day Memories

It isn’t easy to get this many people to, well, anywhere with sanity intact. Add to the chaos a whopping 102 degrees, bees flying around the heads of bee-phobic daughters, and a grumpy three-year-old fresh off the heals of a nasty allergic rash (the antibiotics that were treating that spider bite)…and, wow, what a day! The crazy thing is – once it’s all said and done, it somehow turns into a really great memory. The frustrastion becomes joy, especially once the day’s pictures are uploaded, and it’s easy to decide that every last bit of the day’s sweat was spent wisely.

As times wears on, I will forget about the little arguements between teenagers, and the screaming swats at every insect, and the fussy little ones…and I will only remember each of their smiles, and the way the shimmering water reflected each of their beautiful faces. I will look at these very photos and be grateful for the memories of the day. I am so blessed.

About thisnest

The Sparrows are happily married, and the parents of five children. Donna and her husband Antonio are college sweethearts who also raised his seven siblings, many with special needs, for nearly two decades. Along the way they have navigated the ups and downs of being a blended, black, white, and brown family. Donna celebrates each day of blessings and embraces her family’s “interraciality” through poetry, anecdotes, and glimpses into her beautifully chaotic life on her blog at www.ThisNest.com
