Run, DeeDee, Run!

Just wanted to take this moment to buh-rag about my beautiful (and athletic) daughter, Destiny (aka DeeDee). Yes, I am a proud Mama! Although I would be proud of her regardless of the order in which she crossed that finish line tonight…it sure was fun watching her win! She was SO proud of herself (as she should be).

She qualified for tonight’s meet by placing second in both the preliminaries, and then the finals of the first meet, last week. She then “worked out” in the neighborhood with her friends (basically ran around “the hood” lookin’ cute). Tonight was the “best of the best”…the first and second place winners from all the other elementary school track meets in the district.

Her relay team took second, go girls! Then for the fifty yard dash…Yeah! She took first place in the prelims and was so wearing her victory on her precious face…shoulders high, chest all swoll up with pride. Now for the finals…and…”Run, DeeDee, run!”

Second place by a hair!

Good job, Baby Girl, you were great! I love you so much and am (and always will be) so, so proud of you 🙂

To Adarius, My Heart…

You precious, precious baby…I am so, so very far beyond any human word that could even describe what a mother could feel for her child…Love? Ummmm, no, that only partially describes these insanely intense feelings that wash over me whenever I see the miracle of you…Adoration? Well, that doesn’t quite cover the pure joy I feel as the sound of your laughter fills my head…Addiction? definitely implies, but still fails to exactly pinpoint, the feelings that I get when just the scent of your fat, little neck releases an overdose of endorphins into my bloodstream. You are…you are…perfect.

In your short eleven months here, you have brought so much to this family. You are the perfect exclamation point at the end of the Sparrow sentence…the best final chapter ever written…a last sequel that perfectly matches the first four installments…the Grand Finale…and we are so blessed with your presence!

Your sense of humor is becoming so evident, and your laughter is contagious. You are an amazing spirit, and I know you’re truly missed in that beautiful Heaven you came from but, never the less, I am so honored that He chose us for you…and so grateful that He chose you for us.

Father God, please know that I will not let You down. I will handle with care this generous gift, always keeping in mind that he, as with the first four gifts, is just on loan to us for a time. Thank You, thank You, thank You…I am so humbled to have been the recipient of Your most valuable possessions.

I love you Adarius.

Love, Mommy

My Little Madman

“Look Mama! Look, see, I dwaw (draw) aya-pwane (airplane)! See my aya-pwane!” D’lo exclaimed with a very proud look upon his sweet face, as he grabbed my hand and led me to his etch-a-sketch…and just like that…everything else disappeared.  As I gazed approvingly at my two year old’s masterpiece, and then back to his very delighted face, well, that moment far outweighed the blue gel toothpaste smeared all over the walls of our hallway.

Instantly, the image of red marker drawn, in very long streaks, across my family-room carpet faded in my mind…also gone were the thoughts of the salt he shook all over ALL the toys in the playroom…the brand new roll of toilet paper, unrolled, laying in a pile under the cardboard it was just on…that same load of laundry I folded, like, eight times cuz he thought they made a good karate mat…the soggy goldfish (the cracker) smashed into the floor next to the (salty) toys in the playroom (he must have thought the fishies needed water)…the water running down the front of the fridge and puddling onto the floor now that he’s discovered that really neat lever that releases H2O at his will…

I really could go on and on…and puh-leez don’t think we don’t discipline our child. I think he just really enjoys his little adventures much more than he fears a spankin’…hmmmmm (deep breath…and…let it out).  I love this little madman!

By the way…that’s a damn good airplane, don’t you agree?

Prayers Answered

As most of you know, Tony’s surgery was yesterday afternoon.  It was a big success!  They weren’t sure, based on his MRI, which part of the meniscus was torn. The inside 50% of the “horseshoe” is avascular and, having no blood flow, would not have the potential to heal. The outside, vascular, half has a blood supply and can, therefore, heal. There was also the issue of cartilage damage (the area that was cleaned up during his first surgery two years ago). Surgeon wanted to check on cartilage loss in that area.
After over an hour and a half of surgery, the surgeon came and found us in the waiting room. The “bucket handle” tear WAS in the vascular half…Thank You Jesus! She made the repairs, injected some of his own blood under the tear before suturing it in order to form a scab there and give him a head-start on healing.
Upon inspection of the cartilage damage from the first surgery, she realized that area was fraying again. She said it was due to the scraping of that part of cartilage on the tear. She cleaned up that damage and upon inspection of the healthy cartilage underneath, was amazed to find hardly any loss at all! She called him a chameleon and said she had never really seen this type of regeneration before.
In a nutshell, his meniscus has probably been torn for quite some time, maybe even missed during the first surgery. All the times his knee would “lock” and we’d end up in the ER was due to the knee snagging on the tear. How this could have been missed so many times before is beyond me, but I am a very happy mama that God brought this particular surgeon to my son. I am grateful to all the Prayer Warriors that sent up their concerns and wishes on behalf of my son.
Healing time will be longer and more painful than anticipated since the doctor had to make an extra incision and burrow in through the back of the knee to really get to the affected areas, in addition to the regular arthroscopic incisions. He will be on his back for another week, and will begin PT the week after that. I anticipate his return to school week after next.
I would  really appreciate your continued prayers for his healing, his pain level, and his rehabilitation. It will be a long road but Doctor says he should have a “normal” knee to show for all the work. A normal knee…hmmm, that sounds nice (sigh).

In Need Of Prayer

Just found out this morning that my sweet, oldest baby will undergo knee surgery this upcoming Monday…I’m not a happy Mama right now to say the least. I am a jumbled up, twisted ball of emotion at the thought of him “going under the knife” once again. He’s been doing so great since his first surgery (nearly two years ago), and I find myself way over-thinking this. I mean, this is the same knee, the same symptoms, the same, terrible pain he suffered from before, yet I am to believe that this is a new issue?!

I love his new doctor, wish she had been the one inside of his knee the first time. She says this is a good thing because at least now we have an answer…I know she is right, so why do I still have to convince myself of this? This particular surgeon deals strictly with athletes (the teenage kind for the most part) and he certainly falls into that category. I’m hoping this won’t be too much of a disruption, and maybe more of a solution, to his athletic future. He so loves to be active and I know the kind of devastation being kept down is already beginning to cause. Not to mention the driver’s ed course he is scheduled to take this summer.

Anyway, Doctor says its a torn medial meniscus. She says it has to be a significant tear in order to be causing the “locking” he experienced on Monday (been a very rough week). Please Ya’ll, please keep Tony in prayer this week and into Monday and beyond. Pray for his physical and emotional healing. Pray for the hopes and dreams he has for his future. Pray for Dr. Pelmas and her staff as they handle such a precious boy (young man) on Monday.

Thanks Guys…
