This is my niece, Gracie. She is six. She is definitely a combination of brains and beauty…so dang smart and so dang cute! Gracie-poo is in kindergarten now. While her mother (my little sister) has settled comfortably into the schedule of her kindergartener, the one thing she is not comfortable with are conversations like this one that took place in the car on the way home from school:
“Did you have a good day at school today, Baby?” Deb asked her child
“Yes, I did.” answered Gracie
“And what did you learn today?” Debra asked
“I learned about periods.” stated Gracie, in a very matter-of-fact tone
“You learned about periods today?!” Debra asked, surprised, to say the least, and beginning to grow concerned
“Yes, we learned about periods.” confirmed my niece
“Who told you about periods?!” my sister further inquired, trying to figure out who she’d need to go “deal with”
“My teacher.” Gracie stated
“Aaaaaannd, what did she tell you about periods?” Debra continued, fighting every instinct she had to turn her car around and go back to the school
“She told us that they are very important!” Gracie shot back
“Oh, really?” Deb asked, only to be met with loud chanting from the back seat…
“PERIODS! PERIODS! PERIODS! PERIODS!” Gracie shouted, both fists in the air
“What else did you learn about periods?!” my sister asked her child, gripping the steering wheel tightly…
“I LEARNED THAT THEY GO AT THE END OF EVERY SENTENCE!”
L – M – B – O ! ! ! !
