Summer Time Child

Summer Time Child

…And on that caramel back

the golden hair glistens

as the warm sun hugs

and the gentle breeze kisses

that happy, summertime child.

…And the watermelon juice flows

like a sparkling stream

off the sweet chin, past the round belly

and clear down to his knees

as that summertime child smiles.

…And far above cinnamon curls

clouds take many shapes

as his face turns towards Heaven

and imagination is made

in that summertime child’s eyes.

…And his mommy and daddy sit

hand in hand, cream in brown

and they watch this sweet gift

as the blessings flow down

and they thank God for their summertime child.
